Hi, I am Taylor Guy Manning, but everyone calls me Guy. ![[vector-portrait.svg|-noinv-dmo]] I am a math tutor, a math writer, a tubist, a trombonist, a euphoniumist, an arranger, a composer, and a computer enthusiast. I've been tutoring consistently since 2007. Checkout [[Tutoring|Tutoring]] to read more. I spent 3 years teaching math and music theory for Grades 7-12 at Doral Academy Prep. in Miami, FL. I had the pleasure of instructing AIME qualifiers, National Merit semi-finalists, and students who are now at some of the country's most prestigious schools. Those students would have succeeded with any teacher, but I was very lucky to take part in enabling their success. Teaching takes a lot of energy, and depending on your approach, results in a lot of grading outside of contract hours. While I had a lot of fun and saw my students make awesome progress, teaching is simply more demanding than tutoring. Before I started teaching, I was studying Tuba Performance at University of Arizona, and before that I got my B.M. in Tuba Performance at University of Miami. Even though I chose to major in music, I was always studying math - sometimes for credit, but usually not. I've got awesome parents that encouraged and enabled my math and music learning early on. They drove me to countless orchestra rehearsals, math circles, lessons, auditions, competitions, and other events that I've come to realize were essential steps in my growth. I started [[The Math Guy'd|The Math Guy'd]] in hopes of making some of my knowledge accessible to everyone. Eventually, I hope to have most of the highschool and undergraduate math curriculum covered. I have no idea how the project will evolve, but I imagine collaboration would increase the magnitude of the impact something like this could make.
